Homilies

Fr. Lawrence Jagdfeld, O.F.M.

June 30

Homily for Friday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

Daily Thought from the Saints

"Let the Word of God come; let it enter the church; let it become a consuming fire, that it may burn the hay and stubble, and consume whatever is worldly; there is heavy lead of iniquity in many; let it be molten by divine fire; let the gold and silver vessels be made better, in order that understanding and speech, refined by the heat of suffering, may begin to be more precious."

— St. Ambrose

Daily Scripture Verse

"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven."

Matthew 7:21

Daily Meditation

"Let the Word of God come; let it enter the church; let it become a consuming fire, that it may burn the hay and stubble, and consume whatever is worldly; there is heavy lead of iniquity in many; let it be molten by divine fire; let the gold and silver vessels be made better, in order that understanding and speech, refined by the heat of suffering, may begin to be more precious."

— St. Ambrose

Daily Catholic Wisdom

Letting myself be loved by God as well as being nourished by the Eucharist, forgiven of my sins, and called to His holy purpose liberates me to love others without conditions, possessiveness, or expectations.

—Bishop Donald Hying
from his book “Love Never Fails”

A Prayer from Notre Dame University

Rev. Andrew Gawrych, C.S.C.

Lord, give us the love and the generosity to reach out to serve our brothers and sisters in need, so in loving and serving them, we may love and serve you, and thus one day hear you welcome us into your eternal kingdom. Amen.

Abbot Austin Murphy, O.S.B., St. Procopius Abbey, Lisle, IL

Mark 1:40-43

Reading

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.

Meditation

The leper believes that Jesus can heal him. Do we believe that Jesus can heal us of our sins? Do we believe that He can even heal us of those stubborn, habitual sins from which we have such a hard time breaking free and into which we repeatedly fall? He can do this and, therefore, let us believe that He can do so.

Prayer
May I put aside all doubts, o God, and firmly believe—since it is true—that You can heal me of my sins through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Contemplation…
