Without the Creator, The Creatures Cannot Exist
Homily for Wednesday of the Fifth Week in Eastertide
My homily for today is very short, not because I didn’t prepare but because the message of the Scriptures for today is so easy to understand.
The message from today’s Gospel text is expressed in a metaphor of the vine and the branches. The metaphor clearly states that without the Lord, we cannot truly live. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church clearly states, without the Creator the creatures cease to exist.
Paul and Barnabas are examples to us today of men who are grafted onto the vine that is Jesus. Because of their relationship to Jesus, the fruit of their mission is bountiful.
Without Christ we can do nothing. With Christ and in Christ, we have the true freedom to seek and gain the life for which we were created. We express our thanks for that freedom through our Eucharist today.
