Remember Your Creator

Homily for Satuday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary TIme

Ecclesiastes speaks with a kind of holy honesty: youth is a gift, but it is fleeting; life is beautiful, but it is fragile; creation is wondrous, but it is passing. “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth.” In the Season of Creation, this reminder becomes a call to humility. We are not masters of the earth—we are stewards whose time is short. Psalm 90 echoes this truth: “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart.” Wisdom begins when we recognize that our lives—and the world entrusted to us—are not possessions but graces.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples that He will be handed over. They do not understand, and they are afraid to ask. Sometimes we, too, avoid the hard truths—about our lives, our responsibilities, and even our impact on creation. But Jesus invites us to face reality with courage, because love grows stronger when it meets truth.

St. Elzear and Blessed Delphine lived this courage. Their marriage was marked by simplicity, generosity, and a deep reverence for God’s gifts. They remind us that holiness is not abstract—it is lived through choices that honor God, neighbor, and creation. Their lives teach us that care for the earth begins with a heart that is free from excess and open to grace. They were among the first to approach St. Francis of Assisi to ask that he open a way for them to live the Franciscan life as a married, secular couple. Today, we remember their desire to life the simple life of walking in the footsteps of our Savior.

Today’s message is gentle but urgent: Cherish the time you have. Honor the world God has placed in your hands. Let Christ’s humility shape your stewardship of creation.
