Optional Memorial of St. Ephrem

Pour into our hearts, O Lord, we pray, the Holy Spirit, at whose prompting the deacon, Saint Ephrem exalted in singing of your mysteries, and from whom he received the strength to serve you alone. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

Daily Thought from the Saints

"Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin. All hope consists in confession. In confession there is a chance for mercy. Believe it firmly, do not doubt, do not hesitate, never despair of the mercy of God."

— St. Isidore of Seville

Daily Scripture Verse

"To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing."

Isaiah 40:25-26

Daily Meditation

"When we are living in the world, we can easily take on the mindset of a secular society. It is important for us to cultivate in our lives, with great care, God’s way of looking at things and life in general. His Word guides us."

— Rev. Thomas J. Donaghy

Day by Day with Mary, the Mother of God

Hail, O refuge of the afflicted,
                hail, ransom of the curse.
Hail, O Mother of Christ,
                Son of the Living God
to whom shall be glory, honor,
                adoration and praise.

—St. Ephrem

A Prayer from Notre Dame University

Rev. Bill Dorwart, C.S.C.

Almighty and ever-living God, your people long to taste and see the goodness of your love. Bless our hands and our wits that we might become your beacon of hope in a darkened world. Make our voice your own, that your children may savor the presence of your promise and peace revealed in Jesus, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
