God's Promise of a Davidic Dynasty
Homily for Wednesday of the 3rd Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s first reading, God makes a promise to David: “I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me.” It’s a covenant rooted not in David’s achievements, but in God’s generosity. God builds the house; God sustains the kingdom; God remains faithful even when human beings falter.
In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the sower. The seed is abundant, scattered everywhere—even in places where it may not grow. God’s Word is just as generous as His promise to David. The question is not whether God speaks, but whether our hearts are ready to receive.
On the Memorial of St. Thomas Aquinas, we remember a man whose heart was rich soil. His brilliance didn’t come from intellect alone but from humility, prayer, and a deep desire for truth. He let God’s Word take root, and it bore fruit for the whole Church.
So today, the invitation is simple:
Let God be the builder of your life, and let His Word find good soil in you. When we do that, God’s promise and God’s seed grow into something far greater than we could ever construct on our own.
