The Great Cloud of Witnesses

Fr. Lawrence Jagdfeld, O.F.M.

May 4

Daily Thought from the Saints

"What great faith our Lord Jesus Christ asks of us—and how just that is. Do we not owe him such faith? It looks impossible to us, but Jesus is Master of the impossible."

— Saint Charles de Foucauld

Daily Scripture Verse

"He is ‘the stone rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.’ There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved."

Acts 4:11-12

Daily Meditation

"Beloved brothers and sisters, we must strive with all our strength to repel the enemy of our soul, with full attention and vigilence, as he rages and aims his darts against every part of us that can be assaulted and wounded. This is what the Apostle Peter, in his epistle, warns and teaches us about, saying: 'Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour' (1 Pt. 5:8)."

— Paul Thigpen

Daily Catholic Wisdom

The Rosary is not merely a series of prayers to be recited; it is a series of thoughts to be dwelt upon, to be turned over in the mind, to be applied in daily life.

—Fr. Patrick Peyton, CSC
from Father Peyton’s “Rosary Prayer Book”

Daily Journey with the Pope

“This can happen to us, out of tiredness, disappointment, perhaps out of laziness, to forget the Lord and to neglect the great choices we have made, to content ourselves with something else. For example, not to dedicate time to talking together in the family, preferring personal pastimes; we forget prayer, letting ourselves get wrapped up in our own needs; we neglect charity, with the excuse of daily urgencies. But, in doing so, we find ourselves disappointed…”

Pope Francis

A Prayer

Rev. Thomas O'Hara, C.S.C.

Dear Lord, how blessed are we to know that with you we have life eternal. There is no end with you. Even when we are faced with seemingly dark days, there is no need for panic or despair for nothing that happens today, or any day, can overcome us. Even death itself is not an end, for with you there is always a new beginning, a new life. We are comforted by your promise. Blessed are you our God! Amen.
