Daily Thought from the Saints

"No one, however weak, is denied a share in the victory of the cross. No one is beyond the help of the prayer of Christ."

— St. Leo the Great

Daily Scripture Verse

"When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, I was stupid and ignorant, I was like a beast toward thee. Nevertheless I am continually with thee; thou dost hold my right hand. Thou dost guide me with thy counsel, and afterward thou wilt receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is nothing upon earth that I desire besides thee. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever."

Psalm 73:21-26

Daily Meditation

"The Blessed Virgin endured a long and cruel martyrdom in her heart for our sakes, and for love of us. Frequently, and with feelings of tender love, contemplate her standing at the foot of the Cross, and join her in bewailing and weeping over sin, which, by causing the death of Jesus, rent in twain the heart of Mary. Pledge your heart to this Mother of sorrows, by some habitual act of devotion and mortification, in remembrance and in honor of her bitter sufferings. Also, endure something for love of her, imitating her patience, resignation, and silence."

— Fr. Ignatius of the Side of Jesus

Daily Catholic Wisdom

God made us for joy!

—Pope St. John Paul II

A Prayer from Notre Dame  University

Rev. Paul Kollman, C.S.C.

Jesus, Son of God the most high, you live in intimate union with the Father and you invite us to share in your life. May the fruits of our own Baptism be more evident than ever these Lenten days, that we may celebrate Easter with unrestrained rejoicing. You live and reign with the Father and the Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

John 8:34-38

Reading

[Jesus said,] “Everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains. So if the Son frees you, then you will truly be free. I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are trying to kill me, because my word has no room among you. I tell you what I have seen in the Father’s presence; then do what you have heard from the Father.”

Meditation

What is heard from the Father is truth. So, when we listen to the Father, we become free, for we walk by the truth and not by attachments that enslave us to sin. Jesus is the incarnation of the truth spoken by the Father. Whether we accept or reject Jesus is an external playing out of whether we accept or reject the truth spoken by the Father within us. To reject the truth within us is equivalent to wanting to kill Jesus, the incarnation of this truth outside of us.

Prayer
Lord, I have become hard of hearing toward the truth that You speak within my soul. Therefore, help me to follow that truth as it is visible before me in the man Jesus Christ. Amen.
