Daily Thought from the Saints

"The limitless loving devotion to God, and the gift God makes of Himself to you, are the highest elevation of which the heart is capable; it is the highest degree of prayer."

— St. Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)

Daily Scripture Verse

"But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or the plants of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind."

Job 12:7-10

Daily Meditation

"We are all sinners. We have all turned away from the Lord, but the Lord is always ready to take us back. When we sin we hurt ourselves, we break our own hearts. The Father sends His Holy Spirit into our hearts to bring us forgiveness and to heal whatever damage we have done to ourselves."

— Rev. Jude Winkler

Daily Catholic Wisdom

God wants to be with us so much, that through the sacrament of Baptism, He comes to live in our very souls—not far away, but inside of us. So during prayer there’s no need to look outward but within. The awesome, all-mighty God wants to share His infinite strength with us right here and now… if we only let Him.

A Prayer from Notre Dame University

Members of the Holy Cross Novitiate

Christ our Good Shepherd, you tirelessly seek out the lost, and you give strength to the weary sinner. In your unfathomable mercy, you never cease to pour out blessings upon those who despair of finding you. Help us to extend this same spirit of consolation to our brothers and sisters in need, and may we always imitate your example of tender care towards the poor. We ask this in your name. Amen.

John 10:24-25

Reading

So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me.”

Meditation

We are slow learners before God. Thus, what Jesus says here can be applied to us. He tells us various things but we are slow to receive them. How patient God is as it takes us time— sometimes years, decades, or a whole lifetime—to learn what He wishes to teach us!

Prayer

Lord, I confess that I am slow to learn Your ways, but even though slowly, may I still learn from You. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
