Father Lawrence's Blog

Twenty-Second Sunday in ordinary Time

God of might, giver of every good gift, put into our hearts the love of your name, so that, I deepening our sense of reverence, you may nurture in us what is good and, by your watchful care, keep safe what you have nurtured. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

Daily Thought From The Saints

"It is the duty of every man to uphold the dignity of every woman.”

— Pope St. John Paul II

Daily Scripture Verse

"Thus says the Lord: “let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his Riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord practice steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, says the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:23-24

Daily Meditation

"Indeed, the glory to which God raises the soul through grace is so great that even the natural beauty of the Angels is as nothing compared with it. The Angels themselves wonder how a soul that was sunk in the desert of this sinful Earth can be clothed with such a wonderful splendor. The wonders of the Angels will not surprise us when we see and hear that God himself considers the beauty of grace with astonishment and rapture. How else can we explain what he says in the Canticle of Canticles to the soul: “how beautiful art thou, my love, how beautiful art thou.” (Cant. 4:1)."

— Fr. Matthias J. Scheeben

Daily by day with Mary

Let your true devotion to your loving mother, Mary, be manifest everywhere and to everyone; so that you may spread everywhere the fragrance of Jesus and, carrying your cross steadfastly after our good Master, gain the crown and kingdom which is waiting for you.

A Prayer from Notre Dame University

Members of the Holy Cross Novitiate

God of all consolation, your Son told the Pharisee that he should not host the rich and well-known but instead invite the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Help us to be obedient to that command, so that in showing love to those whom you love, we may come to a better understanding of your Mystery. May we not be people who crave repayment, but instead make us people of charity and love for all your children, wherever they may be. Through your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
