Lectio Divina

SHORT SUMMARY OF 4 STEPS OF LECTIO DIVINA

  1. READING: attentively read a passage of the Bible with the faith that it is God's word spoken to us.
  2. MEDITATION: think about the meaning of the text. If something about the text struck you, why? If the text is a story, perhaps it would help to imagine yourself as a character in it. Ask questions of the text and its context, in order to ponder its meaning.
  3. PRAYER: based on an insight or good thought gained from your meditation, ask something from God in a prayer.
  4. CONTEMPLATION: since your will aligns with God's when you ask something good in this prayer, you become close to God and rest in His presence.

Romans 6:23

Scripture reading:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).”

Meditation:

When making a list of all of the gifts that I have received from the Lord, there is none greater than the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus suffered, died, and rose from the dead for me, even though I was a sinner. Jesus loved me before I loved him.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I give you praise and thanks for all of the gifts with which I have been blessed. Above all, I give you thanks for the gift of which you have through your death and resurrection. With the psalmist I pray, “What can I offer the LORD for all he has done for me? What can I offer the LORD for all he has done for me? (Psalm 116:12).”

Contemplation:

Sit in silence and consider the gift that has given all who place their faith in Him.
